The Hewden Auction began its journey in 1999 following the Hewden acquisition of Elmore Plant from The Wates Group. At that time technology was completely different, i.e. it was rare to own a Blackberry phone or have access to the internet!



The Challenge

Building upon our highly valued relationship with Hewden and secure in the knowledge the Hewden Auction was entirely different in that it was one auction, one fleet and one company, our aim was to make the auction process transparent to potential buyers, and through embracing technology create a globally acknowledged auction brand.



The Solution

By declaring everything we knew about the machines including any defects, buyers immediately warmed to our honest and open approach. The benefits were not only apparent in the hammer prices for machines which were in excellent condition, but also the machines which had defects.

The transparency pioneered by The Hewden Auction has been emulated by auctioneers and dealers and is now popular throughout the industry. We have changed with technology and created innovation, but the core values which established the project are the same now as they were back then.
